BAföG

A good education should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial situation.

On this page, you will find all the important information about BAföG at TH Bingen: who is eligible, how to apply, what documents are required, and how to contact us.

Who is eligible for BAföG?

BAföG provides financial support to students whose own funds or those of their parents are insufficient.
Whether you are eligible depends on several factors, such as income, living situation and type of study.

Tip: Use the BMBF's BAföG calculator.

How to submit your application

When?

Ideally, immediately after enrolment.

How?

  • The forms are available here.
  • In writing with signature (also possible as a scan by e-mail)
  • By post
  • Upload via BAföG-Digital

Submission of documents

You can submit documents by e-mail, post or by dropping them in the letterbox (Building 5, ground floor).
Please be sure to include: grant number, surname, first name, date of birth.

What documents are required?

The documents you need to submit depend on your personal circumstances. Here is an overview of the documents that are frequently required:

  • Identity card or passport
  • Current certificate of enrolment
  • Proof of income for your parents and, if applicable, for yourself
  • Proof of rent if you do not live with your parents

If you are unsure which documents are required in your case (e.g. if you have your own flat, live with your parents or are a single parent), we will be happy to advise you personally.

What happens after graduation

Half of BAföG is granted as a grant, half as an interest-free loan.
Four and a half years after completing your studies, you will receive a letter from the Federal Office of Administration with all the details on repayment.
