What are staff mobilities?
Bingen UAS is part of Erasmus+ Programme and enables members of the university to participate in mobility programmes within the programme countries.
What are Erasmus “Programme countries”?
The Erasmus+ programme is fully implemented in 33 so-called programme countries. These are the Member States of the EU and six others. A list of programme countries can be found here.
What is eligible for funding?
Erasmus+ funding is available for visiting lectureships at partner universities in Erasmus+ programme countries, as well as for further education and training measures for university staff at universities and companies in the programme countries.
Funding is available for mobility programmes for further education and training in a professional context, such as:
• Participation in language courses
• Work placements
• Job shadowing
• Study visits
• Participation in curriculum development (lecturers)
• Participation in workshops and seminars
Teaching visits are also supported:
Visiting lecturers should use their stay to strengthen the European dimension of the host university, supplement its range of courses and impart their specialist knowledge to students who do not want to or cannot study abroad. The development of joint study programmes between the partner universities and the exchange of teaching content and methods should also play a role here.
What funding can I receive?
The financial support consists of a travel allowance and a flat-rate subsistence allowance, which are calculated based on distance and country. The amount of the grant depends on the local cost of living, the distance to the host country and the length of stay.
Below you will find the daily rates divided into three country groups. The full rate is paid up to the 14th day of the stay; from the 15th to the 60th day of the stay, the grant amounts to 70 per cent of the daily rate.
(all information without guarantee)
| Country group 1 (180 Euro pro Tag) | Belgien, Dänemark, Finnland, Frankreich, Irland, Island, Italien, Liechtenstein, Luxemburg, Niederlande, Norwegen, Österreich, Schweden |
| Country group 2 (160 Euro pro Tag): | Estland, Griechenland, Lettland, Malta, Portugal, Slowakei, Slowenien, Spanien, Tschechien, Zypern |
| Country group 3 (140 Euro pro Tag): | Bulgarien, Kroatien, Litauen, Polen, Nordmazedonien, Polen, Rumänien, Serbien, Türkei, Ungarn |
| (all information without guarantee) |
A travel allowance is added to these daily rates. This is calculated uniformly across Europe using the EU distance calculator, depending on the distance between the starting point and destination of the mobility. The following flat rates are reimbursed per stay, depending on the distance:
(Information provided without guarantee)
| Kilometres (one-way distance decisive) | travel expenses flat rate |
|---|---|
| < 10 km | none |
| 10 km – 99 km | 28 EUR standard trip / 56 EUR Green Travel |
| 100 km – 499 km | 211 EUR standard trip / 285 EUR Green Travel |
| 500 km – 1.999 km | 309 standard trip / 417 EUR Green Travel |
| 2.000 km – 2.999 km | 395 EUR standard trip/ 535 EUR Green Travel |
The Erasmus grant can be used to cover costs incurred in connection with the trip. This also includes any participation fees that may be incurred. If you expect that the Erasmus grant will not be sufficient to cover your costs, the remaining costs must be paid by you or by another cost centre that you must specify, provided that this is approved. Unfortunately, no costs can be covered by Erasmus funds beyond the above-mentioned grant.
Due to the English-language courses on offer, the funding focus is on staff mobility for further education and training purposes. The aim here is to support staff who will be working extensively with English-speaking students in particular, by means of language courses and intercultural workshops. It is important that the courses are clearly related to the work and that the focus is on further training.
How long can I receive funding?
Stays abroad last between a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 60 days (excluding travel time). Depending on the availability of funds, a maximum of 5 to 10 working days of funding is currently possible.
In the context of teaching stays, the required teaching load is at least 8 teaching hours in one week or a shorter period (at least 2 days). For each additional day of stay beyond one week (7 days), the minimum number of hours per additional day is calculated as follows: 8 hours divided by 5 days multiplied by the number of additional days.
How do I apply for staff mobility?
The relevant application documents and the upload link are available on the intranet.
What criteria are used to evaluate my application?
Funding is awarded based on TH Bingen's internationalisation efforts, the availability of funds and previous mobility funding. Furthermore, the applicant's supervisor must give their approval when the application is submitted.
Only limited funds are available for promoting staff mobility. As a result, it may not be possible to approve all applications. Applications for funding can be submitted at any time, but preferably by the specified deadlines of 1 February and 1 July.
Who has already gained experience with staff mobility?
Experience reports from TH employees and university staff from other German universities can be found on the intranet under ‘Experience reports’.
Can I take advantage of staff mobility programmes multiple times?
In principle, multiple funding is possible. However, the TH only has a limited number of places available for staff mobility, and the university's internationalisation strategy provides for various forms of funding, so that preference is given to staff who have not previously spent time abroad.
Is there a checklist?
A checklist outlining the individual steps for implementing staff mobility can also be found on the intranet.
Can I receive funding for trips outside the Erasmus programme countries?
Financial support from the International Office is currently only available within the framework of the Erasmus programme. Trips outside this programme must be self-funded.
Where can I find further information?
Please also refer to the website of the National Agency for EU Higher Education Cooperation.
more FAQs
How can I establish a new partnership with a foreign university?
International university partnerships offer students and staff at TH Bingen the opportunity to study abroad with minimal hurdles. For example, the usual tuition fees at partner universities are waived. We are open to expanding and extending our approximately 50 international partnerships. If you are interested in this, please contact international(at)th-bingen.de.
What is Erasmus+ and how does the programme work?
Erasmus+ (European Community Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students) is the EU programme for promoting education, training, youth and sport in Europe. Since 1987, the EU has been promoting exchanges between students and university staff through the Erasmus programme. Find out more about the historical development of the programme here.
The prerequisite for a university to participate in the Erasmus+ programme is possession of a valid Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE). The ECHE sets out the basic principles and minimum requirements that higher education institutions must meet when applying for and implementing activities under Erasmus+. In order to obtain an ECHE, TH Bingen must apply within the framework of the call for applications for an ECHE conducted by the EU Commission. TH Bingen has always done so successfully, which means that we have also been awarded the ECHE for the current programme generation.
The TH has also drafted a European Policy Statement. This is the TH's official Erasmus declaration on higher education policy, in which it explains its strategy for implementing Erasmus+ measures following the award of the ECHE. Both the ECHE and our European Policy Statement can be found on our website.
What activities does TH Bingen undertake within the framework of Erasmus+?
The Erasmus programme consists of a variety of programme lines. The focus is on promoting mobility. Funding applications are submitted via the International Office as part of regular project calls. We raise funds to finance the following activities:
Student mobility for study purposes (SMS)
Student mobility for internship purposes (SMP)
Staff mobility for teaching and training purposes (STA)
Staff mobility for further education and training purposes (STT)
If approved, we are provided with a certain amount of funding for a certain number of mobility programmes. The project duration is usually 24 months.
What is the digitalisation of Erasmus all about? What is EWP?
The digitalisation of the Erasmus+ programme is one of the major topics for the future of European higher education cooperation and is a key focus for the International Office. The EU Commission has issued guidelines for the digitalisation of individual programme components, which must be implemented by all ECHE-accredited universities within a specified timeframe. This process is called Erasmus Without Paper (EWP). Initially, the EU Commission is focusing on the digitisation of student mobility. However, staff mobility will also be handled digitally in the foreseeable future. The digitisation of the complex Erasmus programme involves a great deal of work. This is partly because existing processes have to be completely revised and a complex IT environment provided by the European Commission has to be used for this purpose. This involves various platforms and tools, all of which have to be newly integrated. If approved, we will be provided with a certain amount of funding for a certain number of mobility programmes. The project duration is usually 24 months.
