All about studying
There is a lot to organise during your studies. You can find all the relevant information here.
What you need to know:
Congratulations on completing your studies!
As soon as you have successfully completed your studies, we will automatically issue your degree documents – i.e. your certificate, transcript and diploma supplement.
If you requested English translations when registering your thesis, you will receive these at the same time.
The documents will usually be sent to you by registered post. Please allow approximately six weeks for processing.
You can easily update your address yourself in the inCampo student portal:
Service > Personal settings > Edit contact details.
Please keep your details up to date at all times to ensure that important information and documents actually reach you.
If you would like to take a break from your studies for a period of time, you can easily apply for a semester of leave. During this time, your studies will be paused – meaning that your subject semesters will not continue to count.
A leave of absence is possible in the following cases:
- Participation in committees (e.g. student body or student services)
- Prolonged illness
- Care of a relative
- Maternity leave or parental leave
- Relevant study abroad (up to two semesters, unless it is mandatory according to the examination regulations)
- Work-related reasons within the framework of a part-time, work-integrated or dual study programme
Important to know:
You continue to pay the semester fee, but no tuition fees (e.g. for a continuing education master's degree).
You are not allowed to take any examinations during the leave of absence semester.
How it works:
You can apply for a leave of absence in the inCampo student portal within the re-registration period:
- by 31 January for the coming summer semester
- by 31 July for the coming winter semester
You can also upload all the necessary supporting documents there.
If you wish to complete or prematurely terminate your studies at TH Bingen, simply submit an application for de-registration.
This can be done conveniently online via the inCampo student portal.
Once your application has been processed, you will receive your certificate of de-registration digitally.
Please note: Retroactive de-registration is not possible.
If you would like to attend events at TH Bingen without officially enrolling, you can apply for guest student status.
As a guest student, you do not have student status – this means:
- You will not receive a student ID or a semester ticket.
- You are not allowed to take exams.
How it works:
Simply fill out the guest student application form (at the bottom of the page) and submit it to the Registrar's Office.
If there are places available in your desired degree programme, you will receive admission and your guest student certificate.
Tip:
It is best to contact the lecturer of the course you wish to attend in advance to ensure that participation is possible.
Costs:
Guest student status is subject to a fee and costs €200 per semester (flat rate) at TH Bingen.
As a student, you are also entitled to statutory maternity protection. This applies:
- 6 weeks before the birth
- 8 weeks after the birth
- and during breastfeeding
The Maternity Protection Act ensures that you will not be disadvantaged in your studies.
For safety reasons, you are generally excluded from examinations and courses during the maternity protection period.
However, if you still wish to participate in your studies, you can submit a declaration of participation – this can be revoked at any time with effect for the future.
Please report your pregnancy to the Registrar's Office as early as possible.
The necessary forms will be filled out together with you there.
Our safety officer will then be informed so that a risk assessment can be carried out for your planned courses (e.g. internships, laboratories). This assessment will determine
- whether certain courses must be prohibited or
- whether alternative arrangements are possible.
You and the responsible departments at the university will be informed of the results of this assessment.
If you do not wish to take exams or attend courses during your pregnancy or after giving birth, you can also take a leave of absence.
All relevant information – including the necessary documents and applications – can be downloaded at the bottom of the page.
If your first name or surname has changed, you can easily apply for the change online in the inCampo student portal.
To do so, fill out the name change application and upload the required supporting documents directly to the portal.
You can conveniently track the processing status of your application there at any time.
If you wish to continue your studies, you must re-register each semester.
Re-registration deadlines:
- Summer semester: by 31 Januar
- Winter semester: by 31 July
How to re-register
Transfer the semester fee to the following account within the deadline:
Recipient: Landeshochschulkasse Mainz
IBAN: DE51 5500 0000 0055 0015 28
BIC: MARKDEF1550
Institute: Deutsche Bundesbank, Mainz branch
Purpose of payment
The purpose of payment must be structured exactly as follows:
[Matriculation number]-[Semester]-R-[Surname]-[First name]
The semester consists of the year and the ending 1 (summer semester) or 2 (winter semester).
Example:
For the winter semester 2025/26, Max Mustermann enters:
1234567-20252-R-Mustermann-Max
Important
- The semester fee must be received in the account of the Landeshochschulkasse by the deadline.
- A transfer on the deadline itself is not sufficient.
- A late payment surcharge of €25 will be charged for late payments.
Information about the semester fee can be found here.
The TH Bingen app has been available since 2022 – your digital companion throughout your studies.
In it you will find:
- the latest news and emails
- your grades
- the canteen menu
- as well as your student ID and your semester ticket
The app is free and is automatically updated each semester when you re-register.
No smartphone? No problem.
If you do not have a smartphone, you can apply for a paper ID at the Registrar's Office (for a fee).
This must be reapplied for each semester. The relevant application form can be downloaded at the bottom of the page.
Please note:
As soon as a paper ID is issued, your digital student ID and semester ticket will be automatically blocked in the app.
Your certificate of enrolment is available in the inCampo student portal –
as soon as you have re-registered for the next semester.
Path:
My studies → Student services → Notifications/Certificates → General
You can access and print the certificate yourself whenever you need it.
If you wish to change your degree programme, simply submit an application via the inCampo student portal during the current application period.
Please use your existing student account for this –
it is not necessary to re-register as an applicant.
As a student at TH Bingen, you are covered by accident insurance for all activities within the university's area of responsibility.
This also applies to direct journeys to and from the university.
If an accident or commuting accident occurs, please report it to the Registrar's Office.
Your details will be forwarded to the Rhineland-Palatinate Accident Insurance Fund.
If the accident occurs on the university premises, our safety officer will also be informed.
Further information can be found directly at the Rhineland-Palatinate Accident Insurance Fund.
After completing your enrollment, you will receive your login details for services like inCampo, OLAT, and your university email account via the student portal.
You can find the file with your access data in the portal under "My Studies" > "Study Service", in the "Documents/Certificates" tab.
FAQs on study organisation
We will send you a reminder by email in good time.
In this email, you will find all the important information at a glance.
Of course, you can also find the latest information on our website at any time.
A refund of the semester fee is only possible if you deregister before lectures begin.
You can simply submit your application for this in the inCampo student portal.
You can find your semester ticket in the TH Bingen app.
It will be automatically activated at the beginning of each semester or after re-registration.
As a guest student, you can attend selected lectures for a fee.
Please note:
- It is not possible to take examinations or obtain a degree.
- You are not entitled to BAföG (student loan).
- You will also not receive a student ID or a semester ticket.
You can obtain a new PUK from the Registrar's Office.
Please note:
- There is a fee of €20 for issuing the PUK.
- Please transfer the amount in advance.
- Use the same bank details as for the semester fee.
- In the reference field, please enter your matriculation number, your full name and ‘PUK’.
You transfer the fee to the Landeshochschulkasse. The information about the payments received is usually forwarded to us one to two days later.
This means:
- There may be delays, but
- The date of receipt by the Landeshochschulkasse always counts – you will not be disadvantaged by this.
If the purpose of the payment is unclear or incorrect, delays may also occur.
In this case, we recommend that you send the proof of payment by e-mail to the Registrar's Office so that the payment can be allocated quickly.
There may be one or more re-registration blocks on your account.
Just check the inCampo student portal:
My studies → Student services → ‘My status’ tab
What to do in case of blocks?
- If you have been blocked due to a final exam failure or expiring examination regulations, please contact your programme office.
- In all other cases, the Registrar's Office will be happy to help you.
If you have lost your degree documents or they have been damaged, you can request a duplicate or a reconstruction.
To do so, please contact the Certificates/Transcripts department.
Important note
A fee is charged for reissuing documents.
The costs depend on the amount of work involved and will be communicated to you by the department.
English translations of certificates and transcripts will be provided upon request.
Please submit your request at the same time as you register your bachelor's or master's thesis with the programme office.
It is not possible to issue English documents retroactively.
Please send us the original document.
- If you are still enrolled as a student, there are no fees for up to three certification notes per document.
- If you are no longer enrolled, fees will apply.
- A fee is also charged for each paper copy.
Tip: You can also make the copies yourself (black and white photocopy, front and back as per the original).
You will then receive a fee notice, and the fee must be paid in advance.
Certifications for domestic and international use
- For officially certified copies for submission in Germany, you can also contact your local authority.
- TH Bingen is solely responsible for use abroad.
Important:
Some countries require legalisation or an apostille (certificate of authenticity) for public documents.
Further information can be found on the website of the Rhineland-Palatinate Supervisory and Service Directorate.
For some master's programmes, we can include the professional title ‘engineer’ on your certificate.
Important:
If you did not obtain your bachelor's degree in Germany, your previous education must first be recognised by the Rhineland-Palatinate Chamber of Engineers.
Please submit your application to the Chamber of Engineers as early as possible, as processing can take up to four months.
Please submit the notification of recognition to us in good time so that we can add the title to your certificate.
You will automatically receive a certificate when you deregister.
Please keep this document in a safe place, as you will need it when you apply for your pension at the latest. We also recommend that you clarify your pension account at an early stage.
Lost your certificate?
If you no longer have your certificate, please contact the Registrar's Office.
To issue a new certificate, we require:
- a copy of your identity card
- and details of when you studied with us.
