Computers are omnipresent citizens in our everyday lifes. The related discipline - computer science - enabled mankind to use mainframes, desktops, mobile devices and embedded systems in various fields. In recent years, the discipline gained further momentum by the rise of artificial intelligence. Hence, it is without question, that by mastering computer science you can shape the future.

Our Master's program in Computer Science is offered to both domestic and international applicants. Thanks to the intercultural exchange, both domestic and foreign students enrich their soft skills during their studies. This provides them an ideal foundation for today's job market, where globalized software development is no more an exception but increasingly becoming the norm.

All courses and examinations are held in English. Optionally, the Master's Thesis can be written in German. Successful completion of our program does not only open countless doors in industry, but also enables graduates to continue their academic career by qualifying them to apply for a doctorate program.

Why study at Bingen UAS?

The study program is composed of three semesters and can be completed in just three terms (1.5 years). The first two terms build up the understanding of theoretical concepts and practical skills. In the last term, students prove these skills by delivering a comprehensive work as part of their Master's thesis. The Master's thesis can be accomplished in a cooperation with an project partner (usually from the industry) or as internal research project.

Master’s thesis (30 credits)

Degree:

The admission requirements for the Master’s degree course in Informatik / Computer Science are governed by Section 3 of the Examination Regulations (for further information, please see the Documents section). Under these regulations, you are required to have completed a bachelor’s degree or Diplom in the field of computer science or a field closely related to computer science. Your final grade should be at least the German grade of gut (good) or the recognised foreign equivalent thereof.

In individual justified cases, it is possible to deviate from this regulation. If you believe this may apply to you, please contact the course advisor for more information.

To be eligible for our program, you typically need to have completed a minimum of 210 ECTS credit points in your Bachelor's degree. However, in some cases, we may consider your application with 180 ECTS credit points if your Bachelor's program closely aligns with our curriculum and meets our academic expectations.

Additional Requirements for International Applicants:

For studying in Germany, you need to obtain an entrance qualification that is also called "Hochschulzugangsberechtigung". For a Master's program, you need a Bachelor's degree. If you received your Bachelor's degree from a university in another country, it is necessary to obtain an equality certificate ("Gleichwertigkeitsbescheinigung"). As part of this process, your GPA is also converted to our system and printed on that certificate.

Equality attestation and GPA conversion are handled by our partner Uni-assist e.V. [1]. Please note that Uni-assist e.V. can take several weeks to process your documents. Hence, it is strongly recommended to request the "Gleichwertigkeitsbescheinigung" already in March. Please note that Uni-assist e.V. may charge fees for their services.

Experience:

For the Master of Computer Science / Computer Science, the following basics from a Bachelor's degree must be proven:

Software Engineering. In particular, this includes extensive programming skills and experience in software planning and quality assurance.
Technologies of Computer Science. This includes central concepts and systems such as databases, operating systems and computer architectures.
Theoretical Informatics.

With regard to the language requirements for English-language courses at the University of Applied Sciences Bingen, a language certificate at English language level B2 is required, which must be proven with one of the following:

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Internet based (0-120 Pkt.) Min. 72 Pts.

No. While some courses are offered online or in a hybrid setting, most practical work and exams must be taken on site.

At the time of submission, there is no fee but you might be charged by UniAssist for the equality certificate (check the admission requirements for more information), and you might have to pay for a language certificate to prove your english level.

Please check the requirements as outlined on our website and compare yourself. We are neither able nor allowed to give "pre-evaluations" as we have implemented formalized selection process, where each application is carefully evaluated by a committee.

Depends on your profile, but in most cases your chances will be (very) limited. This is especially true if you don't have a solid academic background in computer science but studies subjects like electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or alike. The same applies if you studied in computer science program where your transcript of record does not show essential technical skills such as programming, software engineering or theoretical computer science your chances.

If the expected delay is only a few days, you can file your application providing a Bonafide certificate and supplement the final certificate a few days later. However, if the delay is too long the only thing you can do is to apply during the next intake window.

Yes, you have to prove that your skills are on level B2 or better. For international applicants, the english level is checked via uni-assist and this process often can take weeks to complete. Hence, it is highly recommended to start this process as early as possible!

The deadline is announced on our application portal at most eight and at least two weeks before it ends. Historically, the deadline usually expired on June 15th. However, this is not fixed and may change in the future. We recommend to check this website and the application portal regularly. It is recommended to start preparations for your application in March and aim to file it by May to ensure a smooth application process.

You can supplement your application via our application portal. The deadline for supplementing applications is usually a little longer than the deadline for filing the initial application.

We receive hundreds of applications and have to carefully examine each of them. Since our resources are not unlimited, it can sometimes take a long time before we move on to your application.

In case your application was rejected but you think your profile fulfills the requirements, you can file an objection. Objections have to be be filed in written form (via post only) or in electronic form in accordance to § 3a section 2 of the „Verwaltungsverfahrensgesetz“ or for recording at Technische Hochschule Bingen UAS, Berlinstraße 109, 55411 Bingen am Rhein. An appeal via email is only valid if a qualified electronic signature is present. Without a qualified electronic signature, the appeal must be signed by hand and sent by postal mail.

The intake is usually once per year for the winter term. Studies start in October, but applying and preparing to start studies usually must be done months before - especially if you require a visa to study in Germany.
